good book
good book
I've read the first few pages of the book " The Power of Habit" and I had linked some new knowledge in this book to my life.
So, I learned how a habit formed. It starts with a cue (a trigger button of an activity) then leads to the main action, and then you are given a reward. For example ( from myself). When I sit in front of my desk ready to study. I see my phone, my notifications, and messenger,.. it triggered me to click on these apps and check and maybe it leads to a full day scrolling web.
You can also see this loop in your daily routine. When you bathing, brushing teeth or driving car, you really don't need to care much about and just do these activities like being programmed.
That's our brain function. Our kind brain always wants to save us energy and keep our heads smaller ( easy to birth, protects the spine and is easy to move). But this automation also causes bad things for us. Our brain ( accentors brain) can not discriminate what is good or bad for the body. So a mix of good and bad habits were raised in our life process. For example: When you feel sad ( cue) --> you go for a drink ( action) --> after drunk, you feel better ( reward).
So, what this informations meant? Thanks to our brain function again we can easily create a new habit or eliminate one just by changing a single step in the loop ( cue-action-reward). For example: On a normal day when I feel bored, I turn on my phone, watch YouTube, click on it and surf. ( Of course, you can easily imagine that one bad action will lead to what). Using the change loop method. I deleted YouTube ( the cue) so the action will be changed throughout the process. I also do it for some good habit I want to create myself.
In conclusion, this article is just an evocation for one who wants to learn about habit. Read " The Power of Habit" it will help your control of life better.
p/s: This book is written like a study so I don't think it's good for beginners. You can consider " Atomic habits" instead. Good luck!
