It all started in that seat…
Summer, 2012
NT secondary school, class 9B
A boy, sitting in the last row, was busy playing with his phone, reading “stuff”.
My last school year was supposed to be passing by like that… It’s supposed to be…
First day in senior year.
All around me are laughter, and everyone is playing around. After a long summer, being a good kid at home, we all need to let loose a bit. Well, we all know each other already, so it’s to be expected.
And the bell ring
Oh, it’s time for class. We see our homeroom teacher from afar. Oh, and who is that girl walking beside her? Well, she looked kind of pretty, not that I especially care anyway.
“Good morning, teacher”
“Sit down, please”
“Good news for the boys! We have one new classmate, a cute girl. Please introduce yourself, Thuy”
“Hello everyone, my name is Thuy. I just transfered from class D. I hope we all get along together!” - A sweet voice with a soft and gentle smile, every boy in class has their heart skipped a beat.
Well, not me though, cause I was busy watching “stuff”. It’s more important than listen to some self-introduction of some random girl anyway
“Okay, please feel free to pick your seat”
She looked around, and slowly walking to the end of the class, and pick a seat in the last row, between me and Thanh - my best friend, and also my love rival… Well, I didn’t think she would choose a seat that’s so “desert”, but it has nothing to do with me anyway. And I just nodded when she greeted me. She can sit wherever she want, just don’t bother me.
First semester passed by just as I planned. She and I was like the Moon and the Sun, we didn’t get in the way of each other. She got along really well with the rest of our class. But I still live in my own world with my phone, and didn’t even talk to her. We were like strangers even when we’re in the same class.
But, life is full of suprises. One “good” day, the Moon decided to visit the Sun. Thuy suddenly asked me an unexpected question
“Hey, wanna play Rock, Paper, Scissors?”
“Ok…”
I was kinda shocked when she just asked me out of the blue like that. She continued:
“But it’s boring without any punishment. How about who lost get slapped?”
“Sure, but I must say, I won’t go easy even on a girl you know”
“Haha, let’s see who need to go easy on who then”
….
From then on, we gradually get closer. We talked often, and exchange homework and stuff, and we play our little game everyday. But, I don’t know why, maybe I was cursed or something, or maybe it’s just she is really good at it, I always got slapped. After a while, I got her phone number.
We often texting, even all night long. I have never been this close with a girl before, and I couldn’t beleive myself.
And that’s how my spring has come….
